Thank you so very much!!
|
Dear Miller,
I really appreciate what you're doing with your site! At about 17 I was told
I had NLD after going through yet another battery of testing. It actually
explained a lot to me about why my mind works so very differently from most
people's. Ever since I was little I've felt different somehow but never been
able to pin down why exactly. In school, and even now at the age of 24, I've
been teased and tormented in various ways by others for their own amusement.
(Children may be pure, but they are capable of being just as cruel as well!) Now
that I'm aware of my difficulty reading other people I'm less susceptible to
this type of treatment. Although being out of my teens and the hormonal learning
system we call "high school" helps a great deal. 8-)
My biggest problem with NLD is the sensory stuff that's like white noise in
my conscious mind. Loud, repetitive noises, bright lights, etc. are rather like
nails on a chalkboard to me, while others think I'm just oversensitive. It's
hard to impress upon other people how unpleasant and annoying this can be. The
same thing goes for my inability to multitask; people just don't get that it's
something I literally CAN'T do!
I'm glad that you placed this site up to inform people about NLD, Aperger's,
and other similar conditions. It provides a resource for people like me to turn
to, and that means a lot. It's my fondest wish that children that are growing up
now will receive earlier diagnostic testing and assistance to learn to deal with
their difficulties so they won't have to go through some of the experiences I've
had.
Will you put up more about your brother and sister's experiences on the site?
They might have something valuable to tell the visitors of your page. As I don't
know anybody else with similar difficulties to me I'm not really sure what sort
of problems present themselves after leaving school. (I'm a late-bloomer in
college.)
Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart!
